Black, White and Red All Over
Black, White and Red All Over is a stealth game created for the Yogscast Jingle Game Jam 2024, where according to the theme, 'Everything Has a Cost'.

My previous two game jam projects, A Day in the Life of a Goblin and Coven of Critters had been visually similar, so I was eager to explore a new and unique visual identity for this next project.

I had recently played the Giant Sparrow game, The Unfinished Swan (2012) and was enamoured with the way it used a strict colour palette to draw attention to specific elements in the world. This inspired me to explore a punchy, monochrome style.

DICE's Mirror's Edge (2008) has long been one of my favourite games, partly due to its iconic use of the colour red against the harsh white architecture of its city. This inspiration can be clearly seen the visuals of Black, White and Red All Over, in which certain elements in the world are saturated in red.

The biggest challenge of this project was the animation logic driving both the player character and the enemy soldiers. Previous explorations into motion warping and blending animations by bone were extremely useful in this endeavour, as both methods were crucial for the player's dash ability and enemy soldier's locomotion animations respectively.

The Jingle Game Jam was great fun and Black, White and Red All Over was even streamed live on Twitch during the Yogscast's 2024 charity Jingle Jam.
